**Sr. Paralegal**
•*Description**
•*Job Summary:** The Senior Paralegal will be responsible for supporting the Southern Company Gas attorneys in a dynamic in-house legal department supporting operations in Illinois and the other states in which operate. This individual will join a team of two additional paralegals to assist with energy regulatory matters, litigation (responding to subpoenas and providing pre-litigation and litigation support services to in-house and outside attorneys), transactions, and other special projects under the supervision of an attorney.
•*Please note, this position can be located in Atlanta, Georgia or Naperville, Illinois**
•*Duties and Responsibilities**
•*Civil Litigation Support:** + Intake, process and respond timely and properly to subpoenas + Initial intake of new litigation matters including initial investigation to obtain relevant case information + Draft and issue legal holds and conduct document custodian interviews and collections as appropriate + Investigate, compile and digest facts of new cases or pre-suit investigations + Assist outside counsel with discovery requests + Maintain and update files and databases for legal maters, including tracking deadlines
•*Federal Energy Regulatory Commission Proceeding Support:** + Calendar and meet FERC and other filing deadlines as appropriate
•*Transactional Support:** + Review and negotiate non-disclosure agreements and utility franchise agreements with attorney supervision + Assist with assigning managing and supply chain contracts for legal review • Perform other duties as assigned
•*Education, Certifications/Licenses:**
•*Required:** + Bachelor’s degree Preferred: + Paralegal certificate
•*Related Work Experience:**
•*Required:** + Minimum 3 years of experience as a litigation paralegal Applicant may possess a combination of equivalent education and work experience.
•*Specific Skills & Knowledge:**
•*Required:** + Excellent writing, organizational and problem-solving skills with attention to detail + Excellent Microsoft Office (Word, Outlook, Excel and PowerPoint) skills and computer skills + Ability to prioritize, manage tight deadlines and manage own workload + Strong client service orientation + Strong communication skills, including ability to liaise and develop relationships with other business units + Ability to work well on a team and individually in a fast-paced environment + Demonstrated initiative and proactive approach to challenges + Positive attitude
•*Working Conditions/Physical Requirements:** + Keyboarding = Constant 67-100% + Travel = Occasional 1-33%
