Job Description

Position Purpose:

Management of global supply base to maximize performance and leverage to positively impact financial performance of all Woodward business groups. Includes all aspects of commercial and contractual management of the assigned suppliers. Key focus is the selection and development of the supply base to match Woodward's future needs, but also includes support of the business group based purchasing functions in the areas of strategic alignment and critical issue escalation.

Essential Functions:

Strategy Development (supply base/market knowledge, business integration, deployment planning, internal alignment, global awareness)

  • Autonomous development of complex sub-commodity strategies - critical input to commodity and supply chain strategies
  • Contribution to development of non-sourcing business group strategies
  • Ability to drive strategy that impacts business group direct on strategy
  • Demonstrated value and contribution through leverage and integration of complete market factor influences

Strategy Deployment (project management, metrics, goals, escalations - charter, etc.)

  • Demonstrated ability to manage complex, enterprise wide projects requiring deployment of advanced project management skills and tools (risk management, financial model management, high level of enterprise integration, etc.)

Supplier Relationship Management (commercial management, internal coordination and alignment)

  • Autonomous development and execution of relationship management strategies of complex (1-many) relationships at high levels with suppliers
  • Mapping, communication and facilitation of many-many relationships (corporate level)

Analytics (Business Objects and external sources)

  • Effective integration of internal and external data source to drive activity
  • Ability to discern effectiveness of metrics and goals to drive desired results

Business Sytems

  • Provide/drive improvements to WISE and E-Biz tools

Contract Mgmt/Negotiation (type, development, execution, implementation and process)

  • Autonomous development of non-standard agreements
  • Appropriate engagement of stakeholders in contractual process
  • Leads development of negotiation strategies for complex contracts
  • Support development of negotiation strategies outside of sourcing
  • Leads negotiation teams


  • Contributes to development and enhancement of Global Sourcing standardized processes and tools

Other Functions:

CI Process Development

  • Lead of Continuous Improvement efforts requiring strong integration and alignment with other functions

Operate within global Matrixed Structure

  • Effectively drives across regional and global boundaries

Materials and Equipment Used:

  • MS Office Software
  • Basic Office equipment (copier, printer, fax, etc.)

Working Environment / Physical Activities:

  • Domestic and international travel required

Education or Formal Training:

  • 4 year bachelor degree is required, advanced business degree preferred, purchasing (CPM, CPI, APICS, etc...) and project management certifications preferred

Experience Required:

  • 5-10 years strategic sourcing experience
