We are currently searching for a Metallurgical Lab Technician to be based out of Harvey, IL location. Reporting to the Mechanical Engineering Manager, this person will be responsible for the collection of multiple tube samples from each of our producing lines, test each sample thoroughly, and aid in any maintenance or calibration needed across the facility.

The ideal candidate will have 2 to 3 years of experience. Experience in lean manufacturing or business system-based company is a plus.

Additional Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

• Collection of multiple tube samples from each of our 8 producing lines.

• Identify each sample and cut to the required length for Tensile Testing.

• Prepare and measure the dimensions before destructively test tubing.

• Record and prepare the Mechanical Properties Certification by interfacing with AS400 system.

• Maintenance and calibration of all testing equipment as needed.

• Be available to work Saturday and across shifts when needed.

• Ensure that the team honors our Atkore core values of Accountability, Teamwork, Integrity, Respect, and Excellence in all aspects of their daily work.

• High School diploma required; Bachelor's Degree in Engineering preferred.

• Experience with mechanical and chemical testing of steel plain and galvanized.

• Experience with welded tubing manufacturing and galvanizing process preferred, but not required.

• Experience in the use of typical metallurgical laboratory equipment such as saw, micrometers, tensile tester, hardness tester, coupon cutting. Spectroscopy, cross section polishing and optical metallography would be a plus.

• All these activities require some level of physical strength as well the use of steel cutting saws.

• Must be able to maintain accurate records and be able to interface and communicate with all aspects of sales and manufacturing when required.

• PC knowledge; MS Excel and MS Word

• Knowledge of AS400 systems a plus.
