The Position:

As the MPS Manager, you will be responsible for leading Caterpillar’s Mining Performance Solutions business. Based on traditional and nontraditional Caterpillar customers and individualized situational analysis, the MPS organization looks across the Caterpillar product and service organizations (including machines, financial products,

safety services, technologies, and data/analytics) and dealer services and capabilities (parts, service, resource capabilities and expertise) to combine elements into a solution package that can be customized to customer needs. This position provides strategic, commercial, and operational leadership by creating a go-to-market/commercial strategy for a variety of solutions with profit and loss accountabilities.

Job Duties:

Responsibilities may include but are not limited to: 

  • Lead, direct and further develop the people, strategies, financials, and operations of the MPS business across all global regions to increase sales and ensure the financial viability and profitability of the business.
  • Consult, collaborate and transact with a broad client base of senior executives from customers, dealers, third party providers and Caterpillar Divisions, such as Marketing Companies, Product Groups, Product Support and Financial Products. The incumbent also manages both Caterpillar and dealer development for solutions commercial building.
  • Deliver new OPACC positive services and solutions across a broad client base such as Caterpillar end customers, dealers, and product groups.
  • Prepare and sell offerings that create significant value for customers and Caterpillar alike.
  • Manage contractual, solution-based risk for Caterpillar utilizing technology (data capture, retrieval, and usage), negotiating supplier agreements for key services, coordinating global marketing strategies for targeted services, establishing pricing strategies for services, organizing a distribution network as needed and leveraging complex financial products and terms.
  • Work directly with large end user customers (major global mining companies) by working closely with Caterpillar’s Global Mining Account Managers, Strategic accounts, and Caterpillar dealers.
  • Analyze, create, and manage a portfolio of diverse services through customized and unique, customer business contracts.
  • Understand the breadth of Caterpillar products, technologies, and capabilities (as well as capability gaps and growth opportunities) and deliver these through a global go-to-market strategy for Caterpillar solutions.
  • Develop new policies that govern the relationship between Caterpillar, its dealers and customers concerning the commercialization of solutions.
  • Collaborate closely with company executives, dealer principles and the client leadership structure.
  • Work with both internal and external contacts to ensure specific services do not conflict with ongoing enterprise objectives.
  • Create and implement a long-term Caterpillar and dealer structure to support selling and delivering holistic Solutions and Management Services through collaboration with existing Caterpillar Divisions including: Marketing Companies, Electric Power Group, Product Groups, Product Support Division, and Cat Financial.
  • Employee is also responsible for performing other job duties as assigned by Caterpillar management from time to time.
  • Travel 20-30% including international

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent work experience
  • 15+ years’ progressive work experience
  • 3+ years’ experience leading and developing great teams
  • 8+ years’ experience working in customer facing roles that require a solutions mindset
  • 8+ years’ experience successfully collaborating across a matrix organization

  • Ability to collaborate with and challenge third party service providers to arrive at mutually beneficial solutions-based results that support customer needs.
  • Experience in scaling processes and technology to underpin growth
  • Experience managing a global team in a global business
  • Experience in the Mining Industry preferred
  • Experience in one or more of the following functional areas: Product Support, Sales, Business Development, Heavy Equipment life cycle design, solutions delivery 

The location for this role is Peoria, IL or Tucson, AZ. Relocation assistance may be provided to those eligible.
