Job Description

The Vice President of CompTIA Member Communities is responsible for the strategic leadership of four member communities in the United States: Emerging Technology, Advancing Tech Talent & Diversity, SLED and the Public Technology Institute (a public sector local county/city tech leadership member group) as well as CompTIA’s four global communities in the UK, Canada, Australia/New Zealand and the Benelux Region. The VP will work closely with a team of 6 Community Directors to build and drive CompTIA’s relevance and impact in the above market spaces, grow community membership and engagement, develop and execute on industry initiatives that map to CompTIA’s mission of driving the global technology industry forward, and support CompTIA’s general membership and trade association goals. The ideal candidate will have the ability to stay close to relevant technology and association industry dynamics, will inspire staff and members to engage and operate at the highest levels of value and impact for members and the industry, will be able to manage multiple tasks and community initiatives and will possess a friendly, proactive and positive attitude.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Manage the Member Communities team of seven to develop and deliver best-in-class industry segment communities
  • Establish short and long-term member communities’ strategic vision and goals to achieve association’s objectives in engagement, growth, relevance, and impact
  • Work with volunteer technology industry leadership and CompTIA staff to establish and run member communities that promote networking, collaboration, peer-to-peer insight sharing, learning about new developments, and driving high impact initiatives within their segment of the industry
  • Work collaboratively with CompTIA member and association management teams (Marketing, Advisory Councils, Member Recruitment & Renewal, Education, Events, Research) to facilitate cross-departmental coordination to achieve both the aims of the individual member communities and the association
  • Working with the existing CompTIA community chairs and vice-chairs, facilitate meetings of the Communities leadership Executive Board (CEB) to facilitate best practices in volunteer leadership, coordinate community activity and ensure optimal value for members and allocated resources
  • Based on a strong understanding of current dynamics of the technology industry, identify emerging and under serviced segments in the global technology ecosystem, as well as industry thought leaders, to form and govern new, relevant communities
  • Ensure that member communities comply with established governance, and help shape future policy, process and procedures that foster best in class community management and engagement
  • As a member of CompTIA’s Industry Relations Group management team, work collaboratively with peers to deliver high value membership programs and overall benefit to members and the technology industry
  • Work with EVP, Industry Relations to establish annual team and staff goals, Board of Director update reports and interdepartmental activities
  • As a CompTIA executive, be a visible, strong, and effective advocate for CompTIA within the industry. Continue to establish and build on key connections and relationships and grow personal network of thought leaders
  • Stay close to best-in-class options for face-to-face and virtual engagement, and work across the organization to implement.

Job Requirements

Position Requirements:

  • Bachelor and/or Masters degree in Business Administration, Association Management, Computer Science or Management Information Systems or 15+ years of relevant experience
  • 10-15 years of experience working at a senior level within the association and/or technology industry to deliver effective and successful member and industry programs
  • Ability to envision, coordinate, communicate and administer multi-faceted programs and projects
  • Excellent facilitation and consensus building skills
  • Excellent verbal and written communication and presentation skills
  • Ability to multi-task and work independently, efficiently under deadline
  • Excellent, articulate, personable and diplomatic customer service skills
  • A positive, collaborative, inspiring, team-player attitude that helps to build a highly performing team of staff and volunteer leaders that are realizing goals, envisioning possibility and having fun
  • Excellent project management, organizational and leadership skills
  • Ability to effectively analyze and evaluate the merit of ideas, documents, presentation, and discussion
  • Role requires highly strategic and creative thinking, ideas and plans that maintain, grow and drive CompTIA’s thought leadership position in both the technology and association industries
  • Willingness to travel globally, frequently

  • Excellent, inspiring public speaking skills
  • Advanced writing and communication skills
  • A broad established personal network of leaders within the high-tech industry, preferably high- tech channel
  • Strong functional understanding and industry experience in any of the following industry segments - IT Service Delivery, Managed Services, Cloud/SaaS Computing, Cybersecurity, Emerging Technologies, Industry Workforce, Technology Solutions for business in the private and public sectors
  • Experience working with technology companies and professionals across the industry – both private and public sectors.
